Up to this time, Isaiah's prophesies concerned the nations who had at one time been deceitful to Israel but now his prophesy comes closer to home, "the burden of the valley of vision", Jerusalem and the surrounding area. Here prophesied is the siege of the city by the forces of the Syrians under the command of Sennacherib and the distress that this will bring to the city. Here Isaiah reprimands them for not looking to God as the source of their deliverance and for not humbling themselves in the face of sure judgment.
He condemns the court of King Hezekiah for not being of better service to the country in their placement of people and their reaction to the siege.
