This chapter concerns the city of Tyre, situated on the Mediterranean Sea it was, for many ages, the most celebrated cities for trade in that area of the world. The inheritance of the Tribe of Asher bordered upon it. It seldom was a problem to Israel actually it was very helpful to David and Solomon in the construction of the Temple and other buildings in Jerusalem.
Here Isaiah foretells of the destruction of it by the Chaldean Army under Nebuchadnezzar about the time that they destroyed Jerusalem (586 BC) and the difficulty they had in doing it (Ezek. 29:18). It foretells of the return of the people from Babylon to Tyre in about 70 years and their restoration of trade again.
However there was hope in the prophesy found in Deut. 32:8-9, "When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, He fixed the bounds of the people according to the number of the sons of God." "Jacob received the Lord's allotted inheritance." These prophecies were to comfort those in Israel who feared God but were oppressed by the nations.
