This chapter had the first of the "Servant Songs". Described is God's ordination of His Son to be the Messiah. Though He was the Son of God, He took upon Himself the form of a servant. He was the embodiment of the Spirit of God. He was commissioned to bring judgment to the Gentiles as Cyrus brought judgment to the Babylonians and was to do this with tenderness and compassion and patently endure their rejection of him, until He is able to say, "It is finished".
