This chapter declares the great things that God will do for Cyrus because of his kind treatment of the Jews, God's people. Here we see the instruments of God's salvation being blessed even though they were not of the nation of "chosen people". The deliverance brought to God's people by Cyrus is again shown to be a parallel to the deliverance to be brought to all people by the Messiah.
We have here proof of God's incontestable sovereignty, a prayer for deliverance and a reprimand for their lack of patience with God for what they believed as the lengthening out of their captivity. We also have encouragement to those who were patient and waited for God's salvation at the hand of Cyrus.
It ends as the previous chapters with a reprimand to idol worshippers and the pronouncement of their doom and the assurance of those who worship God of their salvation and sanctification.
