Jeremiah's First Sermon

Click here to read Jeremiah 2.

Chapter 2 records his reactions to current events and his first sermon. It was a mighty sermon for God had touched his lips and he certainly did not speak like a child as he had presumed he would. Notice the points of his sermon:

  1. He condemns the people for their idolatry. It was unheard of for a nation to change their God.
  2. He condemns their ungrateful attitude toward God who had been so kind to them. They had broken their covenants and their wickedness was to open to be concealed or forgiven.

Oh that his condemnation of them had brought about their repentance, but it did not. Their hardened hearts were untouched and unhumbled when their sins were set before them.
