This chapter continues with the same theme as the preceding one. Jeremiah warns Judah about their sins and the instrument of God's judgment upon them. They are charged with injustice, hypocrisy, corruption, idolatry and adultery. He warns that if these and others are not repented of, there will be complete destruction of Judah. All this they had done in open defiance of God with apparently no fear of Him.
Jeremiah prophesies that a foreign enemy will come upon them and destroy their fortifications and carry them away into captivity. There they will live in bondage and all the "good things" of life will be kept from them. He continued with his warning tempered with promises of forgiveness if they would repent and turn to the Lord. This was the substance of Jeremiah's preaching during the last part of the reign of King Josiah and the beginning of the reign of King Jehoiakim.
