In this chapter Jeremiah foretells of the siege of Jerusalem, the eventual destruction of it and the Temple and the spoils that would be taken by Babylon.
The first 9 verses describe the extent of the destruction and the terror that would seize all who lived there. Then Jeremiah goes on to tell them of the sins that they had committed which were responsible for the destruction that God would bring upon them. Listed was their contempt for the word of God, their oppression of their fellow man, their worldliness and their contempt for the Prophets. These acts of disobedience caused their sacrifices to be unacceptable before God. He reminded them that God had tried to reclaim them but they refused His pleas through the Prophets so He gave up on them and determined that they were irreclaimable.
