In this chapter, Jeremiah complains and the Lord assures him that he will be given "special attention". When we begin this chapter we may have hoped for a record of God's ending the drought that was described in the last chapter with a favorable answer to Jeremiah's prayers, but not so. To the contrary, we see God reiterating His judgment upon these people for their disobedience.
The Prophet does, however, find satisfaction in the fact that God has heard his pleas even though He did not respond as he had hoped. He then leaves the plight of the people and dwells upon his own plight. He finds it hard to accept that in spite of his faithful discharge of duties he still is being persecuted and has received no compensation for his faithfulness. God assures his that if he continues in the faithful discharge of his duties, he will be compensated.
