In this chapter, God condemns the Jews to captivity for their sin of idolatry. He assures them that their insistence on His favor, because of the faith of their fathers and His covenant with them, was folly. However He does suggest that if they remember the Sabbath Day and keep it Holy, He will delay their judgment for a time.
In the midst of all of this, the Prophet pleas for his own well being and for relief from those who persecuted him.
