This chapter contains a message to Jeremiah from King Zedekiah in which he asks Jeremiah about their future. Jeremiah answers by prophesying the certain ruin of Jerusalem, the bondage of the people into Babylon and advises the king to repent and reform and not to trust in the walls of the city.
From this chapter it becomes evident that the events recorded in this book were not put in chronological order. Later chapters will record events concerning Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim and Jeconiah, all of whom reigned before Zedekiah.
