Nebuchadrezzar's Introduction

Click here to read Jeremiah 25.

Again this chapter is out of chronological order. It falls, in history, before the previous chapters. The date is the first year of Nebuchadrezzars reign as King of Babylon. We see the "sword of the Lord" being drawn here as the instrument of God's judgment against Judah comes into power. As a prelude Jeremiah repeats all of his prophesies as well as the prophesies of past Prophets regarding the warnings of destruction for disobedience and how little attention the people gave to them.

Because of their complete disregard for the warnings of the Lord's Prophets, God made Nebuchadrezzar His servant, one He would use to bring to completion the judgments about which the Prophets had foretold. Predicted also is the destruction that will come from Nebuchadrezzar in other surrounding nations.

Then he does give them a ray of hope, He prophesies that their bondage would only last 70 years and that the instrument of His judgment would be judged also and Babylon would be defeated by another instrument that God would use. (Cyrus)
