This chapter tells of the resistance that Jeremiah faced in his effort in the last chapter to persuade them to yield to the King of Babylon and try to make an alliance with him. He particularly speaks to King Zedekiah, assuring him that they were ultimately going to be defeated anyway and that resistance would only bring destruction that was unnecessary.
While Jeremiah faced a king that was stubborn and hardheaded, he also had opposition from another source. A false prophet by the name of Hana-niah prophesied that Babylon would be destroyed within two years and all would be returned to Jerusalem. Jeremiah rebukes Hana-niah for rebelling against God and prophesied that Hana-niah would die within the year, which of course he did.
