It was the tenth year of the reign of Zedekiah, King of Judah and the eighteenth year of the reign of Nebuchadrezzar, King of Babylon. Jeremiah, again, prophesied the fall of Jerusalem and the captivity of King Zedekiah and for this he was imprisoned in the king's house. In spite of this, his message was still one of hope. To demonstrate his belief that God would ultimately restore Judah, he bought a piece of land from his Uncle Shallum, land offered to him by his Uncle's son, Hanameel.
We have here recorded a prayer, which he offered up to God upon this occasion plus the instructions from the Lord to again tell the King of the destruction that would soon fall on Judah, destruction that would be total and complete. He also was to assured them again of the promises that God had made of their complete restoration and possession of their land.
