In these verses, Baruch, Jeremiah's secretary and autobiographer presents them with a book of Jeremiah's sermons in an abbreviated form. They contained all that he had ever preached to them concerning the judgment of God for their disobedience. These sermons were read to the people by Ba-ruch. The book was taken by King Jehoiakim and burned. Another was written and added to it was a prediction of doom about Johoiakim for burning the book.
Baruch was the son of Neriah who apparently was of notable heritage. He was a special friend and secretary to Jeremiah and most believe is responsible for most of the material found in the Book of Jeremiah.
