Chapters 37 thru 39 record the destruction of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans. With the destruction of the city eminent, many false rumors were circulated. Zedekiah was a horrible king and very evil but when he saw what appeared to be inevitable, he sent for Jeremiah to pray for him. Rumors were circulated that the Babylonians were thinking about withdrawing from Jerusalem. This brought false hope and Jeremiah assured them it was not true. For this, Jeremiah was again imprisoned but the king showed him much kindness.
