This prophecy and those that follow was probably delivered long before the destruction of Jerusalem (586 BC) and the dispersion of the Jews as it relates to the fourth year of the reign of King Jehoiakim (605 BC). The Prophesy concerns Baruch, Jeremiah's secretary. Here the secretary finds himself in trouble for reading and writing the words of Jeremiah. It would appear that Baruch assumed the protection of God because of his association with Jeremiah and for this he was reprimanded however he is promised special protection.
It is believed that this incident of Baruch's fear and the provision that was made for him is here told to show God's gracious concern for all of his servants, scribe as well as Prophet.
