This chapter prophesies the destruction of Egypt by the armies of Babylon. Judgment began with the house of Israel but as we will see, it did not stop there. Destruction brought mostly by the King of Babylon would continue until most of the surrounding nations were defeated.
In the fourth year of Jehoiakim (605 BC) the forces of Pharoah-necho were defeated by the Chaldeans at Carchemish. Here prophesied is the complete destruction of Egypt by Nabuchadnezzar, which occurred about 568 BC. The chapter ends with a word of comfort to Israel in the midst of all this destruction.
