This chapter prophesies the destruction of Moab by the armies of Babylon. The Assyrians had attempted this during the time of Isaiah, but only distressed Moab, but here 5 years after the fall of Jerusalem, the Moabites are destroyed by Babylon and Isaiah's prophesies would come true. Here Jeremiah describes the destruction that would come how it would extend to all parts of the country. How many would flee the country and others would be taken into captivity.
He foretells that the enemy would come silently and quickly and before they realized it the country would be laid to ruin, nothing or no one would escape.
He tells them that this would be judgment for their idolatry and for this pride and misplaced confidence in their forces of security, which led to their enmity to God and His people. It to ends with a promise of eventual restitution.
