A Historical Appendix

Click here to read Jeremiah 52.

Much of what is recorded here in this chapter is taken from Second Kings Chapters 24 and 25. It is the story of the fulfillment of the prophesies of Jeremiah. It was written to shed some light on the next book, The Lamentations of Jeremiah.

This chapter describes and prophesies the following:

  1. It describes the evil reign of Zedekiah, King of Judah.
  2. It describes the siege and destruction of Jerusalem.
  3. It tells of the fate of Zedekiah.
  4. It records the destruction of the Temple.
  5. It records the captivity of the people.
  6. It records the plundering of the city of Jerusalem.
  7. It records the slaughter of the Priests.
  8. It records the ease of bondage placed upon the Jews after the death of Nebuchadnezzar.

History tells of the way the Jews prospered during this exile. They took over most of the mercantile business in Babylon and by the end of the 70 years, the Babylonians were glad to see them go. Many Jews did not want to leave Babylon and many did not go despite the pleas of Nehemiah.
