The walls were built over a 2000 year period in some 19 stages. They were built of sun-dried brick approximately 4 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches. The bottom of the walls (foundation) had never been accurately determined.
The houses, on the ground inside and those built like Rahab's on top of the wall, were made of adobe with wood doors and windows.
