Job Replies to Eliphaz

Click here to read Job 23.

Chapter 23 records Job's reply to Eli-phaz. Actually here Job speaks more to God than to Eli-phaz. He felt separated from God. He believed that God had withdrawn from him. He believed that God had not heard his pleas for help; therefore, there was no hope for help. Never the less, in the midst of all this hopelessness, he comforts himself with the assurance of God's forgiveness and his own integrity which he was sure God was aware of.

Job insists that his punishment far exceeded his fault but where could he turn?

He searched for the Lord but he could not find Him for He had separated Himself form him. He believed that if he could gain the Lords audience and plead his case that the Lord would acquit him. But he searched in vain. Job insists that he had always kept the Lord's commandments and that he had always followed His footsteps. Never the less, it appears to Job that the Lord had made up His mind about him and this opinion had remained unchanged despite Job's pleading. He accepts the fact that God will do as He pleases with him and that He probably still had more ahead for him therefore Job admits that he is terrified.
