Job Replies to God

Click here to read Job 42.

Chapter 42 brings to an end Job's afflictions. Job recovers his composure, expresses sorrow for his lack of faith and patience and humbles himself before God. The differences between him and his friends are resolved and they join together and offer sacrifices and prayers that are acceptable to God. Job's health, prosperity and wealth were returned to him along with his place of honor in the community.

Why was Job written? Matthew Henry says, "Job was written that we, under like circumstances, might, through patience and the comfort of the scriptures, have hope." I believe it was written to show the "Sovereignty of God".

Was there injustice on God's part? Paul says in Romans 10:14, "What shall we say then, is there injustice on God's part?" "By no means for He says to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." "So it depends not upon man but upon God."
