Summation of the Conquest of Canaan

Chapter 12 is a summary of the conquests of Israel. Verses 1 through 6 re-tell of the conquests of Moses on the east side of the Jordan. Verses 7 through 24 tell of the country and kings, thirty-one in all, that Joshua conquered. This summery is recorded here not only as a conclusion of the history of the wars of Israel in Canaan but also as a preface to the dividing of Canaan amongst the tribes of Israel.
