Chapter 18 describes the moving of the Tabernacle and the inheritance of the Tribe of Benjamin.
Here we see the Tabernacle being moved from Gilgal to Shiloh. Then Joshua sends 36 men, three from each tribe, to scout out the yet unconquered land to the north and south. They were to survey it and report back its natural characteristics so Joshua could divide it into 7 sections and assign them to tribes by the "casting of lots". This land was assigned to Benjamin, Simeon. Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and Dan.
In this chapter we have described the land assigned to the tribe of Benjamin. Their inheritance lay between Judah and Ephraim. The northern boundary began on the east at the Jordan River and ran west just north of Jericho and Bethel continuing west to the land of Dan. The southern boundary began at the discharge of the Jordan River into the Dead Sea and ran west by Jerusalem to Beth-she-mesh. The Jordan was on their east and Dan was on their west.
