Joshua's Second Farewell Sermon

Click here to read Joshua 24.

Chapter 24 records Joshua's second sermon. He reminds them of the great care that he had taken to keep them true in faith and worship of God. He reminds them that true religion must be their choice and tells them how they must preserve it.

The chapter ends with the burial of Joshua. He was 110 years old when he died. They buried him at Timnathserah in the land allotted to the tribe of Ephraim. It also records the death of Eleazar, the Chief Priest, who was buried at Gibeah also in the land allotted to Ephraim.

Recorded also was the burial of the bones of Joseph who had died in Egypt some 400 years before and had been carried with them all these years to be buried here in the ground that his father, Jacob, had given him near Shechem. (Gen. 48:22)

The book ends with the condition of Israel's obedience at the time of Joshua's death, which was good. But with the passing of Joshua came the passing of their obedience.

THUS ENDS THE BOOK OF JOSHUA
