The Sixth Period of Disobedience
Chapter 10 records the Sixth Period of Disobedience.
- Their sin:
The people of Israel served the gods of the Syrians.
(The Sidonites, the Moabites, the Ammonites, the Philistines)
- Their servitude:
God became angry with them and gave them over
to the Philistines and the Ammonites. For 18 years the people were
oppressed.
- Their repentance:
Verse 10 says that the people cried out to the
Lord, but the Lord said to the people, "Go cry out unto the gods
that you have been worshipping." "Let them deliver you out of your
distress." But again the people cry out to the Lord, "We have
sinned, do whatever seems right, but deliver us, we pray, this day."
- Their restitution:
The people put away the gods of Canaan and
served the Lord but who would lead them to put off the bondage of
the Philistines and the Ammonites? The answer to this question is
recorded for us in Chapter 11, which continues with the 6th. Period
of Disobedience.
