Private Meditation

Click here to read Lamentations 3.

This chapter is similar to the previous two chapters in content but the composition is different in that there is 66 stanzas' rather than 22, each letter of the alphabet beginning three stanzas' rather than one. Most believe that it was written for use in private meditation rather than for public worship. Here Jeremiah becomes an "intercessor" for Israel repeating very much the same information as before. Here, in less detail, he complains of God's judgment, attempts to comfort the people and encourages them to renew their trust and hope in God.

Some believe that Jeremiah makes these complaints not only as a intercessor for Israel but as a "type of Christ" which many believed he was because of his compassion which caused him to weep thus becoming known as the "weeping prophet" (Matt.16:14).
