The Burnt Offering
Chapter 1 describes the first of these five offerings. It is called the
burnt offering. Notice the instructions, one of three offerings were allowed
depending on your economic status.
- A male cow. It was to be a bull without blemish. It must be
brought to the Tabernacle and killed and Aaron's sons would take the
blood and throw it about the Altar. It would then be placed upon
the Altar and burnt as a sacrifice.
- A male sheep or goat. It to must be without blemish, and killed on
the north side of the Altar with the blood thrown about the Altar
and the remainder burnt as a sacrifice.
- Turtledoves or young pigeons. The Priest was to wring off the
bird's head and drain the blood on the side of the Altar and the
feathers would be cast on the east side of the Altar and the
remainder burnt as a sacrifice. This offering typifies Christ's
total offering of His complete self in submission to His Father's
call.
