Instructions on the Trespass Offering
Chapter 7 continues the instructions to the Priests.
- The Trespass or Guilt Offering.
- As with the burnt offering, a young bull without blemish was
to be killed at the door of the Tabernacle and the blood
scattered about the Altar and the fat portions along with the
kidneys would be burnt as a sacrifice. All Priests were
allowed to eat it in a holy place. Whatever was left over
belonged to the Priest that made the sacrifice.
- The Peace Offering.
- There was three occasions for making a peace offering; for
thanksgiving, for a freewill offering or for an offering at
the discharge of a vow.
- As a thanksgiving offering, unleavened cakes mixed with oil,
unleavened wafers spread with oil or cakes of fine flour mixed
with oil would be offered along with an animal without blemish.
- The blood would be scattered about the Altar and the Priest
that made the sacrifice would eat the flesh on the day of the
offering.
- The procedure was the same for a freewill offering except the
flesh could be kept for 2 days and then on the third day it
had to be burned with fire.
- The person making the peace offering must bring the fat and
the breast of the animal without blemish to the Priest and he
would burn the fat upon the Altar and the breast would be for
Aaron and his sons.
- The Priest that makes the sacrifice shall have the right thigh. The
flesh of this offering the touches anything unclean must not be
eaten. If anyone does this, he shall be cut off from his people.
The fat of any animal shall not be eaten. The blood of any animal
shall not be eaten. Anyone who does this shall be cut off from his
people.
