The Ordination of Priests

Chapter 8 records the anointing of Aaron and his sons as Priests. Notice the steps of the ordination.

  1. Moses assembled the people.
  2. Moses washed Aaron and his sons with water.
  3. He then put upon them the garments of the priests.
  4. Then he took oil and anointed the Tabernacle and all that was in it.
  5. Then he took oil and sprinkled the Altar 7 times.
  6. He poured some of the oil on Aaron's head.
  7. Then he took the bull of the trespass or guilt offering and they offered it up as God had commanded.
  8. Then he presented the ram for the burnt offering and they offered it up as God had commanded.
  9. Then he presented the ram of ordination and ordained Aaron and his sons as the Lord had commanded.
  10. Then he took some of the anointing oil and sprinkled it upon the garments of Aaron and his sons.
  11. Finally he instructed Aaron to:
    1. Boil the flesh of the ordination ram.
    2. Eat it with the bread of ordination.
    3. Burn whatever they could not eat.
    4. Remain in the Tabernacle for 7 days, until their ordination was complete.
