The Ordination of Priests
Chapter 8 records the anointing of Aaron and his sons as Priests. Notice
the steps of the ordination.
- Moses assembled the people.
- Moses washed Aaron and his sons with water.
- He then put upon them the garments of the priests.
- Then he took oil and anointed the Tabernacle and all that was in it.
- Then he took oil and sprinkled the Altar 7 times.
- He poured some of the oil on Aaron's head.
- Then he took the bull of the trespass or guilt offering and they
offered it up as God had commanded.
- Then he presented the ram for the burnt offering and they offered it
up as God had commanded.
- Then he presented the ram of ordination and ordained Aaron and his
sons as the Lord had commanded.
- Then he took some of the anointing oil and sprinkled it upon the
garments of Aaron and his sons.
- Finally he instructed Aaron to:
- Boil the flesh of the ordination ram.
- Eat it with the bread of ordination.
- Burn whatever they could not eat.
- Remain in the Tabernacle for 7 days, until their ordination
was complete.
