Birth Requirements
Chapter 12 records the purification required of a woman that has a child.
- For a male child, she will be unclean for 7 days. On the
8th day, the boy shall be circumcised. The mother will
continue unclean for an additional 33 more days. During this time,
she cannot touch anything holy or come into the Tabernacle.
- For a female child, she shall be unclean for two weeks plus 66 days.
When the days of her purification are complete she shall bring to
the priest an offering. A lamb one year old is for a Burnt Offering
and a pigeon or turtledove is for a Sin Offering; the Priest shall
offer it unto the Lord for her atonement. If she cannot afford the
lamb, she may bring 2 pigeons and two turtledoves.
