Blessings and Curses
Chapter 26 deals with Blessings and Curses.
- Blessings available if they would keep God's commandments and
statutes:
- He would give rain that the land would give it's increase.
- He would preserve the harvest.
- He would provide food.
- He would provide security and peace.
- He would multiply the people.
- He would walk among them and be their God.
- Curses upon them if they did not obey His commandments:
- He would bring sickness upon the people.
- The harvest would be poor.
- Their enemies would eat it and rule over them.
- If they did not repent, He would chasten them seven-fold for
their sins.
- Wild beasts would run among them and kill their children and
cattle.
- He would bring a pestilence upon them.
- They would eat and not be satisfied.
- He would cause them to eat their children.
- He would destroy their places of worship.
- He would destroy their cities.
- He would cause the people to be led into captivity.
- He would scatter them among the nations where they would die
of faintheartedness.
But there was hope. If they would confess their sins and turn from their
wicked ways, He would remember His covenant with Jacob and not shun them
completely in the land of their enemies.
These were the statutes and ordinances given to Moses by the Lord at Mt.
Sinai and they were received by the people as a blessing.
