Micah was a native of the town of Moresheth, which was located in Palestine near what was the border of Philistia and Judaea. Like Amos, he championed the cause of the poor and underprivileged. He condemned the evils of urban life. He condemned the wealthy landowners who took advantage of the poor. He condemned the corrupt religious leaders. He condemned the judicial system. He condemned the pious hypocritical observance of religion. He was concerned about the social injustices that befell the peasants, the small farmer and small landowner. He lived during the 8th. century B.C., 100 years before Jeremiah.
The book can be divided into three parts:
These are the words of the Lord that came to Micah during the reigns of King Jotham, King Ahaz and King Hezekiah, all kings of Judah and addressed to both Samaria and Judah.
