Judgment Day is Coming

Click here to read Micah 7.

It is hard to find an honest man. Good men have disappeared from the face of the earth. Only murderers are left. The Governor and the Judge accepts bribes. The rich man pays them off and tells them whom to ruin. But your judgment day is coming; your time of punishment is almost here. Do not trust anyone, not your best friend, not even your wife. For son despises father and daughter despises mother. A man's enemies can be found in his own house.

As for me, I look to the Lord for my help. I wait for God to save me. Do not rejoice at my fall, O my enemy, for I will rise again. I will be patient while the Lord punishes me, for I have sinned against Him, but eventually God will bring me out of my darkness into His light, then my enemy will se that my God is for me.

Yes there is hope, there is salvation, your cities, people of God, will be rebuilt, much larger and more prosperous than before. Citizens of many lands will come to honor you. But first, a terrible destruction will come upon Israel for the wickedness of her people. O Lord, come and lead your flock, make them to live in peace, let them enjoy the fertile pastures as they did long ago.

Yes, He will do mighty miracles for you as He did long ago. The entire world will stand amazed at what He will do for you. They will come trembling out of their holes to meet your God. Where is there another God like Him, who pardons the sins of the people? Once again you will have compassion on us. You will forgive our sins and throw them into the depths of the ocean. You will bless us as you promised Jacob long ago. You will set your love upon us as you promised our father, Abraham.

So, what is prophesied here?

  1. Judgment. As the result of the sins of the people of Israel, judgment will come like a mighty army, devastating the countryside and leveling their cities like a plowed field.
  2. Comfort. Much is promised here.
    1. A universal religion for all people.
    2. A personal Messiah, born in Bethlehem.
    3. An age of peace.
  3. Salvation. Salvation not obtained by ritual, but by the Grace of God. Prophesied also was the birth of Jesus at Bethlehem. With the fulfillment of this prophecy some 700 years later, Micah's hope for a deliverer of the common people came true.
