Nehemiah's Efforts for Jerusalem

Chapter 11 describes Nehemiah's efforts to populate Jerusalem. One tenth of all the people who were living in other cities in Judah and Benjamin were chosen by lot to move to Jerusalem. Others volunteered to move and were greatly honored.

Most of the Clan Leaders, the Priests, the Levites, the Temple Assistants and the descendants of Solomon's servants continued to live outside of Jerusalem in their own homes.

Note who came:

• 468 descendants of Perez (Judah)
• 968 descendants of Gabbai and Sallai (Benjamin)
• 822 under the leadership of Amashsai (Priests)
• 284 Levites
• 172 Gate Keepers

The chapter also lists the various towns in Judah and Benjamin where these people came from.
