Problems Concerning the Priesthood

Chapter 17 continues with problems concerning the Priesthood. Some of the Israelites asked, "Why must the Priests always come from the Tribe of Levi?" "Why not one of the other tribes?" God answered them and this time without bloodshed. The head of each tribe was instructed to bring a rod or wooden staff and place it before the Lord. God chose the Tribe of Levi by causing Aaron's rod to bloom. The rod was preserved for future generations should this question ever come up again. The leaders of the other tribes agreed, with some reluctance.
