Chapter 24 concludes the story with the defeat of Balak and Balaam. Balaam's curse turns into a blessing on Israel and Balak's anger is kindled. He tells Balaam that he would have brought great honor upon him if his curse had been put upon the Israelites. But Balaam answers, "If you would have given me a house full of silver and gold, I would not have been able to go beyond the word of the Lord, to do good or bad of my own will." "But, he continued, I will prophesy, what the people of Israel will do to you." Balaam was undoubtedly led of the Spirit to say what he did. "A star will come forth out of Jacob. I see Him, but not now." He goes on and foretells of the destruction of Moab, Balak's kingdom, and the destruction of Edom, Seir, Amalek, Kenite and Kain. All these nations were destroyed in the conquering of the Land of Canaan. With this, Balaam and Balak go home.
