Things that are Better Than Riches
In this chapter Solomon tells of 29 more doctrines.
- A good name is better then riches and favor with god than silver and
gold.
- The rich and the poor are all the same as the Lord made them all.
- A prudent man foresees evil but the careless stumble on and are
punished.
- By humility, fear and of the Lord do we receive honor and life.
- Horns and snares are in the way of the thoughtless but he who
considers his path is far from them.
- Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he
will not depart from it.
- The rich rule over the poor and the person who borrows is servant to
the lender.
- He that sows evil shall reap vanity and he that rules in anger shall
fall.
- He that seeks out the needy shall be blessed for he gives of his
bread to the poor.
- Cast out the scorner and contentions will cease, yes, even strife
and reproach will cease.
- The king will be a friend to the pure of heart for the grace of his
lips.
- The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge and he overthrows the
transgressor.
- The lazy man says, 'There is a lion out there, I shall surly be
slain.'
- The mouth of a strange woman is a deep pit; he that is a stranger to
the Lord shall fall into it.
- Foolishness is normal for a child but the rod of correction shall
drive it from him.
- He that oppresses the poor and he that gives to the rich shall surly
come to want.
- Listen to the words of the wise and apply their knowledge.
- Stay close to the wise for it is a pleasant thing.
- I have made known to you this day that you should trust in the Lord.
- Have I not written to you good council and knowledge?
- This I have done that you might know the truth that others might
light their candle at your lamp.
- Do not rob the poor or oppress the afflicted.
- The Lord will plead the cause of the poor and the afflicted and
destroy the soul of those who oppress them.
- Do not make friends with an angry man.
- If you do so, you may become like him.
- Do not go on a loan for anyone if you are not good for the loan.
- If you are debt free no one can take away your bed.
- Preserve and protect boundary markers which your fore fathers have
set.
- If a man is diligent in his business he shall stand before kings and
not be subject to men.
