Against Envy and foolishness

In this chapter we have 34 more doctrines by Solomon.

  1. Be not envious of evil men neither seek their presence.
  2. The heart of envious man studies destruction and his lips speaks evil.
  3. Wisdom builds a house and understanding establishes it.
  4. By knowledge, the rooms of the house are filled with pleasant things.
  5. Yes, a wise man is strong and a man of knowledge increases in strength.
  6. By wise shall you make war and in a large number of councilors, there is safety.
  7. Wisdom is too difficult for the fool so he opens not his mouth at the gate.
  8. He that determines to do evil shall be called mischievous.
  9. To think foolishly is sin and the scorner is an abomination to man.
  10. If you faint in face of adversity, you are weak.
  11. If we have the power to deliver those who may be in the path of death, we should do so.
  12. If we try to plead ignorance as the excuse for not helping a brother, we sin. Shall not it be rendered to every man according to his works.
  13. Study wisdom both for the pleasure of it and for the reward of knowledge.
  14. For in the study of wisdom there is surly a reward that is surly yours.
  15. Let not the wicked lay in wait for the righteous to destroy his resting place.
  16. The just man may fail many times but he always rises up but the wicked always falls into mischief.
  17. Do not rejoice when your enemy falls.
  18. If you rejoice at you enemies trouble the Lord may turn his displeasure from him.
  19. Do not be concerned nor envious of evil men.
  20. For the light of the wicked man shall be put out.
  21. Fear the Lord and the powers that be and contend not with those who are subject to change.
  22. The destruction of those who are subject to change is sudden.
  23. It is not good to be friendly with persons in judgment.
  24. He that excuses the wicked shall be a curse to the people.
  25. He that rebukes the wicked shall be blessed.
  26. Everyone should give the kiss of allegiance to the one who judges rightly.
  27. You must prefer necessities to conveniences.
  28. Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause.
  29. Do not render evil for evil.
  30. The field of the lazy should be avoided.
  31. It is grown over with thorns and the wall is broken down.
  32. In observing it I got a great deal of good advice and instruction on what not to do.
  33. For the lazy loves sleep and folds his hands in easiness.
  34. For this they shall live in poverty.
