Psalm 2 Author unknown. It describes the "crowning" of the "King's Anointed", the "promised Messiah", our Savior, whom God declares to be His Son. The Holy Spirit foretells of the opposition to the Kingdom of the Messiah, the chastising of the opposition and the ultimate setting up of the Kingdom of Christ. It contains the first prophesy of Christ whom God declares to be His Son (V7) and other prophesies found in Rev. 18:9, "Fallen is Babylon the Great" and Rev. 21:6, "Then I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth".
While Psalm 1 was describing the moral beliefs of the Old Testament concerning the earthly gifts of the "righteous", this one fitly follows it by describing the evangelism of the Age of Grace. It declares the victory over sin that is ours in Christ and the "imputed" righteousness that is ours by faith. All this was made possible by the death and resurrection of Christ which destroyed the powers of Babylon (Satan) and made way for a new Heaven and a new Earth.
