Psalm 8 Author David. God's glory and man's dominion. Written on a moonlight night to Gittith, David's chief musician. Gittith was female for Gittite. In the Hebrew it meant "winepress" and were vintage songs used at the Feast of the Passover. It is a solemn meditation on the glory of God and His greatness. It foretells of the complete dominion of Christ over all things (v6). It gives examples of His goodness toward all men.
Here David glorifies God for His mercy in making Himself known to man and for using the weakest of men to serve His purposes. He phrases God for making even the heavenly bodies to serve man and for giving man dominion over the creatures of the earth thereby making him a little lower than the Angels. This Psalm applies to the honor God gave man in sending His own Son to work out our redemption and compares to Matt. 21:16 where man is declared honored in the death and resurrection of Christ. "What is man that thru art mindful of him?"
