A Prayer of Thanksgiving

Click here to read Psalms 9.

Psalm 9 Author David. Phrase for victory over enemies. It was written to the chief musician and was to be played on a musical instrument. Like Job's friend, Zophar, David says that we need to trust God beyond our understanding. He believes that God is judging the world, protecting the oppressed and bringing our enemies to their ruin. There are two places in this Psalm where the word "Selah" is used, after verse 16 and at the end where the singer or reader would pause for a musical interlude played on some instrument to the tune "Muth-labben, which apparently was a very familiar tune.

There is comfort in winning. Here Israel has won a victory over their enemies and David gives thanks to God and gives Him the Glory. He has further comfort in the belief that God will again come to their aid in the future should the occasion arise. He believes that God, in His own time, is judging the world and like the Kingdom of the Messiah; the enemies of the Gospel will eventually be destroyed.
