This psalm was written by David to the Chief Musician. David wrote this Psalm at a time when he was really resenting the efforts of Saul to kill him. He was struggling with the temptation to take things into his own hands. He reached a point where anger took over reason and twice he threw a spear at Saul. His friends, not wanting to see him do something he would be sorry for, advised him to leave the country. But David refused, he insisted that he would put his faith in the protection of the lord.
The application for today's church is inspiration it gives in times when we seem to be threatened by the enemies of the church. It bids us to do as David did....put our trust in God's wisdom and care.
