Psalm 15 Author David. The characteristics of the godly. This parallels Christ's message recorded in Matthew 19:17 concerning the necessity of keeping the commandments in order to receive "fullness of life". David is convinced that if we are to be happy in this life, we need to be holy and honest. This Psalm would have been David's answer to the "rich young ruler" who asked Jesus, "What good deed must I do to have eternal life?" David says, "Keep the commandments." Jesus said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved."
The purpose of this Psalm is to point the way to happiness. It does not point the way to eternal life. Abraham was saved by faith and so are we but obedience to God leads to happiness. In this Psalm David encourages us to enquire of the way and after being enlightened as to the way, we should then "walk in the way". Always remember before asking for enlightenment, to whom much is given, much is expected.
