Psalm 16 Author David. Eternal life for one who trusts. David calls this Psalm, "Michtam", which means "golden" or "personal" which probably means that it was used for private meditation. Matthew Henry says that it means "something of great value", more to be valued than fine gold because it speaks so plainly of Christ and His resurrection." Luke, in Acts 2:25, quotes David from this Psalm, verse 8, and Mark 16:6 uses this Psalm, verse 10, to support the resurrection. Here David speaks with rare insight concerning our redemption, resurrection and the Glory that will follow. This Psalm contains the third prophecy concerning the Christ, verse 10.
Notice how David speaks of himself in this Psalm. He considers himself a "Christian", professing his confidence in God. He speaks of himself as a "type of Christ", and devotes the remainder of the Psalm to prophecies concerning the Christ. "I foresaw the Lord always before my face." He spoke of the presence of God with the Redeemer in His mission and in His sufferings. He spoke of the knowledge of the Redeemer of His resurrection and the Glory that would follow. All this, David says, will carry Him through His mission.
