Psalm 23 Author David. Psalm of the Devine Shepherd. Probably the best known of all Psalms. David, at one time in his life, was a shepherd. He risked his own life, on one occasion, to save the life of one of his sheep. He was well aware of the care that sheep needed and the dependence of the sheep on the shepherd. He relates this to God's care of us.
Many of David's Psalms are full of complaints but this one is full of comforts. Notice how David relates to the care and concern of a shepherd for his sheep to a parallel of the Lord's care and concern for us. Here God supplies the necessities of life, describes as food and water. He supplies freedom from stress and worry (still waters); He supplies instruction for His glory and comfort in times of near death experiences. He provides protection from our enemies, He takes care of our every need and He does this to the dismay of our enemies. We are blessed beyond measure, the cup of blessing runneth over. Surly we are blessed all the days of our lives and have the assurance of live eternal with the Lord.
