Psalm 24 Author David. Psalm of the King of Glory. It was written about the Kingdom of Jesus Christ i.e. The kingdom of His Grace, by which He rules His church and the Kingdom of Providence by which He rules the world. David believed that all should acknowledge this. There are two "Selahs" (pauses) in this Psalm which seem to be opportunities for the reader and the listener to think on the wisdom of what had just been said. (vs. 6 and at the end.)
First he describes the subjects of this Kingdom. Those who have clean hands and a pure heart. Those who are not vain and have not been deceitful. These are the people that seek Him.
Secondly he describes the King of that Kingdom. He is the Lord, strong and mighty. He is the King of Glory and the Lord of Hosts.
It is believed that David wrote this Psalm on the occasion of the bringing of the Ark into Jerusalem. It was to take them above the external ceremonies of the occasion to a solemn and holy communion with God.
