Psalm 25 Author David. An acrostic prayer for instruction. (Acrostic describes a composition usually in verse in which sets of letters, taken in sequence, form a word, a phrase or an alphabet. Psalm 119 is an excellent example of this.) This Psalm provides good instructions on how to pray i.e. It describes what prayer is, what we should pray for, what we may "plead" for in prayer and what encouragement we have to pray. This Psalm, as others do, expounds the belief of Job's friends that the righteous is rewarded in this life and the wicked are condemned. Matthew Henry, in his commentary, says, "In this Psalm we find out what we must do to gain the favor of God and have comfort with our own conscience." We also find out in the latter verses, the work of Christ, i.e., redemption, spotless innocence and completeness.
