Psalm 26 Author David. Examine me O Lord and prove me. Written while he was being persecuted by Saul. Here David speaks to his own integrity much as Job did to his during his affliction. He proclaims his high regard for God and His grace, his dislike of sin and sinners, his sincere affection for the scriptures and he casts himself upon the mercy of the Lord and vows to hold fast to his integrity.
In the first 8 verses he establishes his integrity and in the last 4 verses, he declarers the doom of the wicked and casts himself upon the mercy of God. In the reading of this Psalm we must seek God's will in our lives and be obedient to it that our conscience will not condemn us. If we can do that to any measure we have, by God's Grace, accomplished some degree of perfection. Most scholars agree that the "spotless perfection" spoken of here by David refers to Christ or that which is only obtainable by faith in Christ.
