Psalm 29 Author David. The powerful voice of God. It is believed to have been written during an electrical storm (thunder, lightening, rain). God's sovereign dominion over the world is demonstrated according to David by the power of the thunder and lightening.
In the Psalms of David we see the influence of nature upon him. Here it is a storm, in the 8th. Psalm it was a moonlight night and in the 19th. Psalm, it was a sunny morning. There is nothing like a severe thunderstorm to bring out the fear and appreciation of God's power. Here David not only appreciates it himself but he calls upon all the "great ones" of the world to do like wise. To David the storm was an example of God's favor and His dominion over the world. We should have some appreciation of this as we read this Psalm.
